Hot sunny days, kind of cooler rainstorms, humidity, blasting AC in every building that requires a fleece. What to wear in a Florida Summer gets tricky. Here are my top favorites.
Absolute Favorite Things
What I can’t stop reaching for throughout Summer.

- A Button Down to Layer: I’m showing Julia Amory’s Carolyn shirt, however colors frequently change so I’m linking to all options. J. McLaughlin’s Britt Linen shirt in Tan is another favorite but slimmer in style.
- A Lightweight Print Pant: These Ivy pants from J.McLaughlin have been the BEST and they are very well made.
- Grey and White Tees: All my favorite tees like Madewell, COS and Everlane can be found here.
- Black and White/Ivory Shell Tops: Can go from day to night. I’m still not over this cashmere blend sweater shell from J.Crew: The Sid v-neck by Veronica Beard is another go-to that works with everything.
- Not pictured are standard white and black cotton scoop neck tanks – a layering staple.
- Light Layering Sweater: The Cotton Teddie sweater by J.Crew Factory is light but just enough of a layer in cold rooms.
- Fisherman Sweater: The Organic Cotton Fisherman Crew Sweater by Quince has earned praise from Fashion Detective Roni Bruno and customer reviews. It’s an easy one to wear with white jeans, maxi skirts and shorts.
- Linen Blend Shorts: I like a thin striped short during Summer and buy a neutral color to maximize wear. This price and fit from J.Crew Factory is hard to beat.
- Pashminas: I buy pashminas to wear as a layer in the Summer if I don’t want an expensive sweater. Cindy & Wendy have great ratings and colors.
- Straw Clutch: Lisi Lerch always delivers a great straw clutch for day or night. Her bags come with optional crossbody chains so you don’t need to hold the bag or place it on a table.
- Crepe Pants, Wide-Leg & Flare Jeans: Aritzia offers great crepe pants in neutral colors. I still wear jeans throughout the Summer but either select wide-leg or flare white jeans. My favorite jeans can be found here.
- Belt: Lina Black & Brown Reversible Belt by J. McLaughlin
- A Day to Night Maxi Skirt:
- I’ve purchased great maxi skirts on consignment from the Real Real.
- Banana Republic’s Black Stretch Crepe Skirt is SO light and soft and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy for Summer in a hot city.
- Reformation’s linen gingham skirt is another favorite. Full disclosure – the buttons were a tad loose on the Reformation skirt, but I love the gingham look, fit and feel so I kept.
- Totes by Madewell and Cuyana. I still carry kid & work items and need the space.
- Dress That Can Be Worn Day or Night: CocoShop is a mega splurge but offers timeless dresses that look fantastic in the tropics and other seaside destinations. Boden is another favorite this year.
- Sandals and Closed Toed Shoes: My favorite flat sandals (like Ancient Greek Eleftheria Sandals and Margaux slides) can be found here. A. Soliani’s Como Ballet Flats and Sam Edelman’s Black Slingback in Suede are the close-toed shoes I wear most often. Stubbs & Wotton’s Grace Espadrilles are a classic Palm Beach brand and day or night shoe. If they are too high, the Madewell Maycie Sandal is another great option and so comfortable for day or night. For night, I like the Chora Heel from Ancient Greek Sandals. A block heel is the most comfortable to wear over the course of an evening.
A Few More
The items below aren’t necessary, but they are things I’ve either loved or have my eye on.

- Taupe Crepe Shorts by Aritzia. Have my eye on these. Quince also makes a highly rated version.
- Any bag by Hunting Season but especially this Origami bag.
- Long sleeve shirts by Veronica Beard. They look great with wide-leg pants and feel lux. This Hovey striped top goes with everything.
- Julie Vos jewels
- J.Crew Factory Beach V-Neck Cardigan. Limited stock in the white but they still have blue and taupe colors. This material is so soft. This card can be worn on its own, or, as a layer with dresses and jeans.
- Cartolina Lisette Dress: I saw a woman wearing this dress to dinner in Nantucket and it’s gorgeous.
- Carrot Clover Crepe Pants by Wilfred: These pants help me feel put together in a moment and looks great with flats, espadrilles or heels.
Enjoy!
